Maths Tuition in Hildenborough Kent
This website has been created to provide information and support material for those receiving maths tutition from Chris Moffett. Chris can be contacted by email at chris@themoffetts.co.uk and by phone on 07411 278 637.
Chris has a Cambridge M.A. and has also studied maths with the Open University. He has had some 39 years experience as a teacher, a specialist tutor and was for ten years a Vice Principal and Head of Education in a Secondary Special School where the underlying philosophy was that academic success is possible with the right kind of support. Although qualified to teach more broadly, his chief interest is in helping those who struggle with mathematics.
There are various reasons why some extra help may be needed. Some youngsters lack confidence in this subject which is, it has to be acknowleged, difficult to teach well to classes with a wide range of ability. Other youngsters have missed topics through absence or illness. Yet others are aiming for a top examination grade and need extra practice and encouragement.
Chris gives support to children and young people in Primary (KS2) and Secondary (KS3 and KS4) education to GCSE level. Most of his current students are in the final couple of years of primary or secondary education. For the former the aim is to provide a solid grounding for the transition to secondary school. For the latter the aim is to secure success in GCSE.
He offers:
- Assessments - giving an opinion on a child's current level of attainment and ability (based on material developed by the DCSF (National Strategies Standards).
- Help with maths foundations in readiness for the transition to secondary school
- Support for those taking GCSE in foundation and higher tiers. The results for 2010 entries were good. All candidates attained a grade in the A to C range.
- Support for those with Special Educational Needs - especially those with a diagnosis of ADHD, Aspergers, ASD who need a sympathetically modified approach
- Support for adults whose experience of maths at school was not particularly happy or successful but who want to give it another go!
- One off or ad hoc catch-up sessions on particular topics missed through absence
Students are taught individually. Lessons usually last one hour including feedback to a parent if appropriate.
